Eat a rainbow
The old cliché of 'you are what you eat' is very true. There is not a one-size-fits-all diet, but instead, diversity is key. At the forefront of current research is the micro biome that occupies our gut. In our digestive tract, an ecosystem of trillions of bacteria, fungi and viruses assist fighting diseases and keeping us healthy. The foods we eat affect the variety of our micro biome, ensuring numerous elements within us are kept healthy. By eating an assorted diet rich in phytonutrients (the substance in food giving it bright colour) we promote the positive micro biome to prosper, encouraging a healthy immune system, body weight regulation, and optimal hormone and chemical production within the body.
Every day, we need to target eating something fresh that is red, orange, yellow, blue/purple, green and white- hence eating the rainbow. By embracing diversity our diet remains exciting at the same time as increasing our gut health.
