The resulting benefits of exercise to the body and mind are exponential. Physically, it makes you fitter and stronger, it helps ward off chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers, it improves sleep and digestion and keeps people mobile later in life. Mentally it enhances emotional well being, increases self-confidence, gives purpose, enhances mental resilience and improves intelligence. All of these have a resounding common theme- they make us feel well and healthy.
There is no 'one size fits all' physical activity programme we all should follow. Instead, individuals are encouraged to try a variety of activities and determine what they like best. Enjoyable activities will be repeated and will be easier to build into daily/weekly habits and thus making exercise sustainable.
